AStylishLiving Loves Portobello Road

As you will begin to find out, I love, love, love markets! I love the atmosphere and the feeling which you get when you come across a random or unique item. They don’t get more unique and stylish than Portobello Market. During a trip there a while back I found a stall selling thee largest telescopes I have ever seen. Located in Notting Hill in London, you need to get off the tube at Notting Hill Gate and make your way along Westbourne Grove (tip-follow the huge crowds!). Don’t forget to pop into the boutiques and shops on this street on your way to Portobello. Vintage stores Rellik and One of a Kind are in this area where you can purchase-or drool-over vintage Chanel (my love) and Hermes pieces or why not pop into the store at the start of the street on the right which sells funky dresses for around £10. A lot of the stores sell the same thing so make sure you look for the best deals.

When you first hit Portobello Market check out the Western shop on the right hand side which sells amazing cowboy boots and John Wayne style attire. It is best to visit the market on a Saturday and make sure you arrive by about 10am as it gets crazy busy by midday. The market is split into sections with Antiques-Fruit and Veg-New Goods-Fashion Market-Second Hand Goods with boutiques, shops, cafes and restaurants along the way. There really is something for everyone.

Make sure you check out the antique area with the shops and stalls selling antique furniture and household items. There is also a stall at New Goods selling classic CDs from Bob Marley to the Wizard of OZ movie soundtrack.

As your browsing around you’ll feel that you recognise the area – it was the setting for the movie ‘Notting Hill’ so make sure you look out for Hugh Grant and Rhys Ifans infamous blue house door. There’s a really cute diner café on the right hand side near the Fashion Market where you can have lunch (and it has a toilet, which are scarce in the Market!) or pop into the yummy Mexican restaurant nearby. The market generally stops by about 5pm so make sure you buy a huge box of cupcakes and a huge slice of pink icing vanilla cake at The Hummingbird Café!
