It saddens me that the first AStylishLiving post is dedicated to someone who is now longer with us. Her true beauty, style, elegance, glamour, films and persona however will live on forever…
“My mother says I didn’t open my eyes for eight days when I was born but when I did, the first thing I saw was an engagement ring. I was hooked”
Hooked she was indeed, so hooked in fact that she would go on to be married eight times to seven husbands – twice to Richard Burton. Dame Elizabeth Taylor was born in London in 1932 and went on to become one of the greatest Hollywood beauties that has ever graced the silver screen. She was a magnet for publicity, the eight weddings made sure of that.
One of Elizabeth Taylor’s greatest passions was her jewellery which has seen her amass one of the largest collections in the world over the years which includes the 33.11 carat Krupp diamond –a gift from Burton – and the, wait for it…69.42 CARAT $1,100.000 Cartier diamond. 69.42 carats? Diamonds really must be a girl’s best friend.
Her on-screen looks in films such as Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Butterfield 8 and even Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf all show her ability to rock day wear and night wear looks the Taylor way. Her white chiffon dress from Cat on a Hot Tin Roof was copied by women everywhere. Off-screen, her chic and show-stopping style really came into play and she was admired for her luxe fur coats and crimson lipstick to finish off a glamorous satin dress, off the shoulder top or flouncy skirt she would be sporting – made all the more awe-binding with her luxurious black curls and violet eyes.
Her look was simple and sexy but not over the top….one of the true Hollywood greats.
